Every Video Game Release Date for September 2021

After the traditional summer lull in the gaming industry, September is coming at full steam. Although August had more releases than usual, largely thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic delaying several releases that were planned for earlier in the year, fall is when the big games start to launch.

This September is no different. Although many of the big hitters, such as Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Halo are set to come a little later in the year, the month is jam-packed with exciting and highly-anticipated titles. There’s something for everyone, including AAA first-person shooters, lavish racing games, and interesting indie releases.

Here is every game coming out in September 2021 across every platform. 

Lake

Release Date: September 1

Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X|S

Described as a quiet adventure game, Lake sees Meredith Weiss go back to her sleepy hometown. Taking up her father’s job as a mail carrier, the player’s decisions will affect the story and decide whether Meredith stays in Providence Oaks or returns to her city life. 

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron

Release Date: September 2

Platforms: PC

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is an action game that was originally released in 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Re-released for Steam, it sees players take on the role of Enoch as he searches for fallen angels.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Release Date: September 2

Platforms: PC

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is a new RPG from Owlcat Games that involves a world overrun with demons. While exploring the true cost of good and evil, players will attempt to become a Mythic Hero.

WRC 10

Release Date: September 2

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

The latest entry in the long-running World Rally Championship, this game aims to be the most realistic rally simulator yet. As well as modern cars from the current championship, WRC 10 also includes legendary cars from the glory years of rallying. 

Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions 

Release Date: September 3

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

Set in the world of the Rocky film franchise, this is a new boxing game with arcade gameplay. Promising intuitive controls, a wide selection of characters, and special finishing moves, Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions should be plenty of fun.

Family Trainer

Family Trainer is a new fitness game for the Nintendo Switch. Already available in Japan, it includes 15 mini-games and also supports multiplayer action as well as a singleplayer campaign.

Kitaria Fables 

Release Date: September 3

Kitaria Fables is an action-adventure game with RPG elements. Players can farm for resources as they fight against a rising darkness that is starting to take over the entire world. The only way to oppose this threat is to discover important relics hidden away in dungeons.

Bus Simulator 21

Bus Simulator 21 is exactly what it sounds like. There is a simulator for pretty much every type of job and activity and this latest example puts you in control of driving buses. With 30 licensed vehicles, players have a wide variety of buses to choose from.

Chernobylite

A science fiction horror RPG, Chernobylite takes place in the wasteland around the nuclear disaster. Using real-world scanned data of the exclusion zone, players try to uncover the truth about their past in a non-linear story.

F.I.S.T: Forged In Shadow Torch

F.I.S.T: Forged In Shadow Torch is a metroidvania game set in a world of sentient animals. Featuring lots of fast-paced and intense combat, it forces users to explore the world and navigate through tricky platformer obstacles.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate

The latest game featuring the iconic blue hedgehog, Sonic Colors: Ultimate takes place in an amusement park created by Dr. Eggman. Sonic must free the mystical Wisps that the villain is using to power the park.

The Artful Escape

Aiming to discover his stage persona, The Artful Escape puts players into the shoes of a prodigious guitar player. With psychedelic visuals and a team of great voice actors, it should be a unique experience.

Kraken Academy!!

Release Date: September 10

In Kraken Academy!! players are enrolled in a magical school that is also home to a mysterious kraken. Teaming up with the creature, it is up to the player to try and save the world from a strange time loop.

Life is Strange: True Colors

Release Date: September 10

Another installment in the adventure series, Life is Strange: True Colors focuses on Alex Chen. The young woman attempts to use her power to absorb emotions to and discover the truth about what happened to her brother when he died in a supposed accident.

Lost in Random

Lost in Random is a gothic-inspired fairy tale adventure. Traveling through the world, the player decides the fate of every character and decision through the roll of a cursed black dice. 

NBA 2K22 

Release Date: September 10

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

Once again featuring both the NBA and WNBA, NBA 2K22 is the latest basketball simulator from 2K Games. With an improved MyTEAM mode and an upgraded MyCAREER mode, it is expected to be more accessible than previous titles. 

Tales of Arise

Tales of Arise is an action RPG where players must fight against an oppressive force that has reigned for 300 years. Wielding the Blazing Sword, the main character joins forces with an untouchable girl to liberate the world. 

WarioWare: Get it Together

Announced earlier this year, WarioWare: Get it Together sees the return of the fast-paced mini-game series. With all-new games and lots of wacky characters, players have to help Wario and his crew escape from their own creation alone or with a co-op partner.

Deathloop

Developed by Dishonored studio Arkane, Deathloop is a next-gen first-person shooter. With two rival assassins trapped in a strange time loop, the pair must uncover the mystery or repeat each day on the island of Blackreef.

Honey, I Joined a Cult

In Honey, I Joined a Cult, players take on the role of a cult leader in this management sim. Using the same technology behind Prison Architect, the aim is to collect as much money from followers as possible by expanding and growing your own cult.

Fire Commander

Release Date: September 15

Platforms: PC

Fire Commander sees players thrust into the role of a firefighting unit. A tactical RTS, gameplay revolves around commanding the unit over the course of 30 missions to put out deadly flames and save innocent lives. 

Merek’s Market 

Release Date: September 15

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia

Merek’s Market is a crafting game filled with chaos. Tasked with running a small medieval shop, players will advance through a wacky and comical campaign by crafting a variety of items for the townspeople.

The Amazing American Circus

The Amazing American Circus is a deck-building game with a unique twist. The ultimate goal in the game is to collect cards to create the best circus in America. To accomplish this, players can find performers, items, and more fantastic cards to amaze audiences who visit. 

Eastward 

Release Date: September 16

In Eastward, players journey through a series of towns in a strange country that is on the brink of collapse. Armed with a frying pan, John will meet weird characters and creatures and must discover a way to stop the destruction of the human race.

SkateBIRD

Release Date: September 16

SkateBIRD combined the skating genre of video games with the ability to play as a small bird. These tiny creatures must perform a variety of tricks and skills in makeshift skate parks created with cardboard and sticky tape in this surprisingly in-depth skating experience.

Aragami 2

Release Date: September 17

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Aragami 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to the third-person stealth game that wowed players back in 2016. The story will see an assassin attempting to stop an invading force from wiping out their people with the help of the shadow clan. As you might expect, the game puts heavy emphasis on silently taking down enemies using agility and stealth.

Nexomon

Nexomon is a monster collecting game that was originally released in 2020 for PC. With console ports now on the way, players can catch and evolve some 300 unique Nexomon as they battle to save the colorful world filled with budding champions. 

Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom Prince’s Edition

Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom Prince’s Edition is the ultimate version of the game, including the full base game, two upcoming expansions and hours of additional gameplay and items. The game sees players journey to found a new kingdom in an experience that is part animated film and part game.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a third-person action-adventure game from Ember Lab. In it, players take control of Kena and use her staff and pulse ability to fight off enemies as they collect small creatures known as the Rot. 

Sheltered 2

Sheltered 2 sees the return of the survival management simulator from Unicube and Team17. Featuring a host of improvements and new gameplay features, the sequel tasks players with keeping a group of survivors alive in a dying world filled with few resources and different factions vying for control.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is an open-world driving game. Set in a real-world location that has been faithfully and realistically recreated, the racer is all about climbing the social ladder and improving your status in the world. 

Diablo 2 Resurrected

Sable is an adventure game where the main protagonist must go through her rite of passage. Players will guide Sable as she travels across a huge open desert filled with crashed spaceships and ancient relics. 

Death Stranding Director’s Cut 

Release Date: September 24

Platforms: PlayStation 5

Despite some protests from Hideo Kojima, Sony is releasing Death Stranding Director’s Cut next month. Described as the definitive experience of the game, it includes improved performance and presentation thanks to the extra power in the PS5. The new edition also includes several new gameplay elements and pieces of content, such as Friend Play. 

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

Release Date: September 24

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot retells the story of Dragon Ball Z as players battle as Goku and train to become the ultimate warrior. Featuring the entire cast of characters and stylish combat, the game also includes extra elements such as fishing and relationship building.

Lost Judgment

Release Date: September 24

Lost Judgment is the sequel to Sega’s Yakuza spin-off Judgment, which was released in 2018. Once again featuring the private detective Takayuki Yagami, Lost Judgment sees the character hunting down a criminal accused of murder and sexual harassment. The second game also included new action sequences and revised stealth gameplay.

Ghostrunner

The cyberpunk 3D action platformer Ghostrunner is coming to next-gen consoles next month. With its parkour-inspired gameplay, players must wall-run, jump, and grapple around the environment as they lay enemies using a futuristic sword-like weapon. 

In Sound Mind

In Sound Mind is a new psychological horror game with a first-person perspective. Players have to solve puzzles and battle against strange bosses to survive as they journey through a tormented version of their own mind.

Lemnis Gate

Lemnis Gate is a turn-based company first-person shooter, based around a time loop that keeps repeating the same events. To come out on top in intense battles, players must master unique abilities and the skill to navigate all four dimensions.

New World

New World is a brand new open-world MMO from Amazon. Set on the supernatural island of Aeternum, players have to forge their own destiny to survive. A real-time combat system and the ability to wield deadly weapons should make for compelling gameplay moments. 

Guardians of Hyelore

Guardians of Hyelore is a tower defense game where players have to recruit units to protect against an onslaught of enemies. With hundreds of units and enemies to choose from, only those who come up with the best strategies will manage to survive.

Insurgency Sandstorm

A team-based tactical first-person shooter, Insurgency Sandstorm focuses on close-quarters combat. This multiplayer game pits players against each other in a modern setting and requires teamwork and skill to come out on top. For the first time, users will also be able to customize characters and weapons to make them unique. 

Demon Skin

The brutal hack-and-slash game Demon Skin is coming to consoles after a PC launch earlier this year. Set in a dark fantasy world, players have to navigate a world that blends RPG, platforming, and fighting game elements together to create a unique combat-focused experience.

Hot Wheels Unleashed

Rogue Lords is a dark fantasy roguelike that puts players into the shoes of the Devil himself. Aiming to create as much terror as possible, the Devil will lead evil geniuses and corrupt them to battle against the demon hunters that are determined to stop your plans.
